Overcoming addiction may seem an impossibility for anyone who is addicted to any substance or method of spending their daily life. I can’t imagine that there can be many people, apart from children who would have to ask the question … what is addiction?
We can all be addicted to something, so easily.
Mine used to be chocolate and I am still weaning myself off the sugar addiction but thankfully, it is not something that requires addictive treatment to control. However, much as it may seem a nonsense to some people to say that you are addicted to sweet products, it is true. So true in fact, that I can remember going out in the cold and dark of a winter’s night for that elusive bar of melt in the mouth chocolate.

Overcoming Addiction – Alcohol addiction facts
Addiction to alcohol, is an addiction which can lead to very abusive relationships both physically and verbally. To be living with someone who is an alcoholic, must surely be an ongoing nightmare for the following reasons:
- Waking up everyday to the thoughts of how their partners is going to behave, on this day!
- Not being able to invite your friends around, for fear of their being drunk.
- Constantly wondering whether the addictive person will be able to hold down their job.
These concerns can make a person depressed and thus, living a very unhappy life.

Overcoming Addiction – Food addictions
Food addictions is another one of the addictions which it is painful to see in someone who desperately wants to have a slim and healthy figure. Constantly putting their body under stress and the eventual medical problem which being overweight brings, leads to depression for such an addicted person. Until a person with addiction honestly admits that “I have a food addiction” then their cycle of gorging events is going to carry on. The day they start searching for how to stop food addiction is the day they will be ready to regain their healthy lives.
There is a vast amount of addictions, some of which are known to us, such as drug abuse, alcohol abuse etc but others were certainly unknown to me, until I researched. It was quite surprising to find all the various types of addictions addictive personalities have.

The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) just released this new definition of addiction after a four-year process involving more than 80 experts.“At its core, addiction isn’t just a social problem or a moral problem or a criminal problem. It’s a brain problem whose behaviors manifest in all these other areas,” said Dr. Michael Miller, past president of ASAM who oversaw the development of the new definition. “Many behaviors driven by addiction are real problems and sometimes criminal acts. But the disease is about brains, not drugs. It’s about underlying neurology, not outward actions.”With the fact that it is very likely scientific, overcoming addiction becomes more of a possibility through knowledge and acceptance. - For debt addiction, please read the following where you will find details of addresses for support …
