How to save money on food

Many people are wondering how to save money on food today and not constantly throw it in the bin. Hundreds of pounds are lost every year in British households alone by
overspending on food or generally not using up the food that they already have in their fridges.

Knowing how to save money on food today is important if you don’t want to waste £680 a year, at least.  How much do you have to earn to generate £680?  Whatever the final cost, why throw your hard earned money away?

The BBC have reported that …

According to Wrap, high food price inflation means the financial value of food wasted in the UK has remained the same over the last three years, despite less being binned.

The sad fact is people in the UK, USA, and in fact all around the world are reliant of donations of food daily – so why waste it? Give it away if you don’t want it.

One thing which I think is a good idea, is the way in some Spanish supermarkets they have a trolley by the cash tills, so that, one you pay for your purchases, you can put some food into the trolley, so that it goes direct to the people who need it. It may not be ideal but it is helpful for those who cannot make contact and help personally.

In another shocking article, it is unbelievable that people will committ suicide because they cannot afford to eat and the constant worry of how they are going to manage.

Going back to how to save money on food:

  • Don’t over buy food. Check what you have still in the cupboard.
  • Use up everything that you do purchase.
  • Create dishes which you can freeze with any leftovers.
  • Cut out on luxury non essentials.
  • Make extra dishes and give them away. OK, with that one, you are not saving but you may be helping someone.
